How to get an SRT file
- Drop in your video or audio track. It opens right here, nothing is uploaded.
- Click Generate captions. The language is detected on its own, or you can pick it.
- Read through and fix any word. The timing of the other words stays as it was.
- Click SRT or VTT at the top to download the file. Or download the video with the subtitles burned in.
Good to know
- Works in almost any language, including Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Russian, Hindi, Japanese and many more.
- There are no credits or minute limits. Long videos are fine, they just take longer.
- Have the script already? Paste it and the subtitles use your exact words. More about subtitles from a script.
- SRT works with YouTube, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut and most video players.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. No trial, no credits, no watermark, and no paywall when you export.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The captions are made on your own computer, right in the browser. Your video never leaves your device.
How accurate are the subtitles?
Clear speech usually comes out right with a few small fixes. Names, brands and mumbled words are the usual things to check. You can fix any word in the editor before you download.
Can I upload the SRT to YouTube?
Yes. In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, choose Upload file and pick With timing.
Does it work for audio files?
It works best with video files (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV). For a podcast, export it as a video with a still image first.
How long does it take?
On a computer with Chrome or Edge, usually well under the length of the video. The first run also downloads the speech recognition part once, a few hundred MB.
